Energy Audits and Ratings
"Whole House" Energy Audits
Rather than focusing on a single component such as single-paned windows, an old heating system, or leaky ductwork, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR offers a whole-house approach that assesses how improvements to all of your home's systems can work together to deliver real energy efficiency and cost savings. The key component of this is an energy audit which assesses you energy usage and makes recommendations on improvements to save you money.

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR begins with a top-to-bottom home energy inspection by a specially-trained service provider using state-of-the-art equipment. Expect your service provider to look at:
Common areas for air leaks such as your attic or basement,
Your home's heating and cooling systems and ductwork,
Your home’s windows and doors,
Your home’s lighting, appliances, and water heater,
Your home's water usage,
The service provider will also perform a series of diagnostic tests, including: Air infiltration testing,
Duct leakage testing,
Combustion safety testing.
A service provider may also review and analyze at least twelve months of your home's utility bills. This provides an understanding of the seasonal trends and patterns of your home's energy consumption. After the inspection, your service provider will assist you in selecting improvements that will be the best investments for your home and your family and can tell you how to take advantage of Federal tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements, Energy-Efficient Mortgages and special financing available through PA Home Energy for Home Performance with ENERGY STAR projects.
